Senator Washington has taken a balanced and comprehensive approach to public safety, addressing the root causes of crime while holding offenders accountable. He led efforts to ban ghost guns and strengthen penalties for illegal firearms, ensuring safer neighborhoods. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by schools and communities, he increased penalties for young offenders involved in car theft

Senator Washington is a champion for small businesses and innovation. His leadership was instrumental in securing the FBI Headquarters in Greenbelt, protecting businesses along the Purple Line, and establishing the Maryland Aerospace and Technology Commission. He also created the Capitol Region Economic Development Fund to drive growth and opportunity across the region.

The lack of affordable housing in our region is keeping thousands of families in poverty and making it harder for residents to achieve economic stability. Senator Alonzo Washington has been a leader in tackling this crisis, supporting efforts to prioritize new housing developments around transit hubs while strengthening protections for renters.

Renowned as a Statewide Leader in Education, Alonzo has worked hard to bring in billions of dollars in new funding for PGCPS. This critical funding has provided for the construction of over a dozen new schools, new programs for students living in poverty, and tuition-free community college.

Senator Alonzo Washington is committed to addressing the healthcare challenges facing Prince George’s County. Despite minor improvements, too many families continue to leave the county for healthcare services, even for routine or critical needs. Reports show the county is short over 100 physicians and lacks more than 200 hospital beds, leading to long emergency room wait times and delayed care. 

As County Executive, I am committed to making Prince George’s County a safer place for pedestrians. Working with community stakeholders, residents, and government agencies, I will implement targeted strategies to reduce pedestrian injuries and fatalities while creating more walkable, vibrant communities.
